Exciting Progress

Have you sensed the quickening pace of God’s unfolding purpose?

Like the end of a relay race or the last minutes of a championship game, God’s global purpose is nearing a historic milestone.

In Genesis 12, God promised to bless all the families of the earth. And in the Great Commission of Mt 28:19–20, Jesus gave His followers responsibility to fulfill this promise by discipling all nations (Greek ethnê). These ethnê are not the political countries we sometimes call “nations”—but the people groups or “families” of the world, each with their unique ethnic background, culture, and language.

Past generations and efforts have brought ever closer the blessing of all the earth’s families, and an ever clearer picture of what remains to be done.

In recent years, mission leaders have witnessed the Holy Spirit stirring in many formerly fruitless fields, birthing Jesus movements—four or more spiritual generations of reproducing households of Jesus-followers—as in the book of Acts.

In 2017, a global 24:14 Coalition made a bold commitment to pray and work with the Holy Spirit “to start movement engagements in every unreached people and place by 2025.” (Learn more at MissionFrontiers.org/issue/archive/are-you-in)

Movements among every people group are an essential step in fulfilling Jesus’ prophecy that the good news of God’s Kingdom will be preached in all the world, as a testimony to every nation (ethnê again), and then the end will come (Mt 24:14).

The 24:14 Coalition created a trust network in which more than 650 full movements have been identified, involving more than 50 million new disciples in rapidly reproducing small churches, doubling many times over the past 20 years. Thousands of additional engagement efforts have also been reported (MultMove.net/pub/Astonishing-Progress.pdf).

The Remaining Challenge

God’s Spirit is moving, yet Satan will not yield lightly. This is why we pray, and invite you to join the spiritual battle.

Movements are not evenly distributed. Where there is no movement, Satan’s hold is mostly through the people groups’ fear of Christendom as a foreign, harmful influence on their families and communities.

Among such people groups, traditional church planting through the evangelism of individuals (rather than whole families) fuels these fears. Thus these people groups are only reached through Jesus Movements that bless and heal families.

A full quarter of the world lives in such fear of Christendom, with no observable movement of families discovering and experiencing God’s blessing through Jesus. Researchers have recently labeled this category “Frontier People Groups.”

Half of these people, nearly an eighth of the world, live in just the 31 people groups listed in this book. And movements in these 31 Bridge Peoples will in turn contribute to movements in a great many of the other people groups without a movement (http://JoshuaProject.net/frontier/5).
